BEAVERTON, Ore. - Midfielder Jarad vanSchaik logged a goal and an assist to help the Timbers U-23s kick off their inaugural season in the Premier Development League with a 2-2 draw against the Victoria Highlanders at Tualatin Hills Recreation Center. The Timbers U-23s rallied back to level twice during the match. Midfielder Avneet Shergill fed vanSchaik for a 34th minute equalizer at 1-1. Defender Logan Emory then evened the score at 2-2 off a corner kick from vanSchaik in the 85th minute to cap the night. Midfielder Cole McFarlane and Nic Reyes each scored for the Highlanders.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Newcomer Warren Ukah scored twice and forward Brent Richards logged two assists to lead the Timbers U-23s to a 4-0 victory over the Spokane Spiders at PGE Park. Ukah, who joined the team while on trial with the Timbers’ USL First Division side, opened the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute from Avneet Shergill. Both of Richards’ assists came in the second half on strikes by Ukah in the 48th minute and defender Miguel Guante in the 51st minute. Portland midfielder Mutanda Kwesele finished the night with a penalty kick goal in the 56th minute after forward Ryan Youngblood was fouled inside the box. The Timbers U-23s took a season-high 34 shots against Spokane in the Timbers U-23s first win in franchise history; goalkeeper Garrett Staples logged the franchise’s first-ever shutout.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A five-point performance by forward Brent Richards highlighted an 8-2 win for the Timbers U-23s over the Yakima Reds at PGE Park. Richards scored in each half and recorded an assist, midfielder Tracy Hasson logged a goal and an assist and the backline contributed three goals and two assists to help the Timbers U23s extend their unbeaten run to three matches to start the season. Defender Josh Brown, forward Warren Ukah, Hasson and Richards helped Portland build a 4-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, defenders Daniel Leach and Sterling Flunder, forward Ryan Yougblood and Richards all scored to close the night. For the Reds, Tyler Penn and 2008 PDL MVP Junior Garcia each found the back of the net.

TUKWILA, Wash. – A hat trick from forward Casey Cunningham guided the Seattle Wolves to a 3-1 win over the Timbers U-23s at the Starfire Sports Complex. A strike from midfielder Masaki Hemmi gave the Timbers U-23s a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, but Cunningham scored three unanswered goals to secure the Seattle victory. Entering the match as an early substitute, Cunningham leveled the score in the 27th minute, before adding two goals in the second half; Wolves midfielder Taylor Hoss recorded two assists. The Timbers U-23s had a three-match unbeaten streak come to an end with a loss in their first road match of the campaign.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Midfielder Matt Van Houten scored in the first minute of play and goalkeeper Austin Guerrero earned a shutout as the Timbers U-23s defeated the Tacoma Tide at Curtis High School. Van Houten put the Timbers U-23s on top just :12 seconds into the game and the backline turned in a solid effort, capped by Guerrero’s one save, to hand the Tide their first home loss since 2006. Off the opening whistle, Tacoma played the ball back toward its goal and attempted to work it across the field when Van Houten picked off a pass. He fired the ball into the back of an open net for his first strike of the season. Tacoma took 12 corner kicks and held an 8-7 advantage in shots.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Second-half goals by forward Ryan Youngblood and midfielder Roberto Farfan put the Timbers U-23s ahead in a 4-2 win over the Cascade Surge at Kiggins Bowl Stadium. After Portland’s Brent Richards and Cascade’s Aaron Patrick exchanged goals early in the match, striker Frankie Lopez scored in the 37th minute to give the Timbers U-23s a 2-1 lead at the break. But the Surge leveled the score at 2-2 at the 53rd-minute mark with a goal by midfielder Grant Knight. With just six minutes remaining in the match, Youngblood found the go-ahead goal, and Farfan tacked on the insurance tally in the 89th minute to lock up the win and the team’s second straight victory.

LANGFORD, B.C. – Forward Ryan Youngblood collected a goal and an assist to lead the Timbers U-23s to a 2-1 road win over the Victoria Highlanders at City Centre Stadium. Youngblood scored his third goal of the season off a free kick by defender Logan Emory in the 26th minute. He then assisted midfielder Avneet Shergill in the 50th minute to help Portland build a two-goal lead. Shergill was able to dribble around Victoria goalkeeper Daniel Kilpatrick and slotted the ball into an open goal. The Highlanders were able to pull one back late as defender Craig Robertson found the back of the net in the 87th minute. The win pushed the Timbers U-23s winning streak to three matches.

BREMERTON, Wash. – A short-handed Timbers U-23s side was dealt a 1-0 loss by the Kitsap Pumas at Memorial Stadium. In a showdown between the top two clubs in the Northwest Division, Timbers U-23s defender Daniel Leach was sent off in the 23rd minute with a straight red card. Following the foul, Kitsap midfielder Matt Friesen placed a free kick into the back of the net past goalkeeper Austin Guerrero to hand the Timbers U-23s just their second loss of the season. The Pumas, one of two professional PDL teams in the Northwest Division, held the Timbers U-23s to just five shots.

BURNABY, B.C. – Midfielder Jordan Crasilneck scored two second-half goals to lift the Timbers U-23s to a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency at Simon Fraser University. After a scoreless first half, Crasilneck opened the scoring in the 53rd minute and then added an insurance goal in the 66th minute. Forward Ryan Youngblood assisted both of Crasilneck’s goals and goalkeeper Garrett Staples logged four saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season. With the win, the Timbers U-23s, who took 21 shots against Vancouver, maintained their position at the top of the Northwest Division standings.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Midfielder Collen Warner scored the game-winning goal to lead the Timbers U-23s to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Tacoma Tide at Lincoln Park Stadium. Midfielder Jordan Crasilneck and forward Brent Richards each recorded a goal and an assist in the first half to help the Timbers U-23s build a 3-1 lead by the 35th minute. But the Tide’s Colin Rigby and Rory Agu scored back-to-back goals to level the score at 3-3 before halftime. In just his second match with the club, Warner delivered the eventual game-winning strike in the 73rd minute off a pass from Avneet Shergill. Tacoma featured three former professional players in Leighton O’Brien, Adam West and Colin Rigby against the Timbers U-23s.

SALEM, Ore. – Forward Teteh Bangura scored the game’s lone two goals and the Cascade Surge defeated the Timbers U-23s 2-0 at McCulloch Stadium. Bangura scored in the opening minutes of each half, taking advantage of errors committed by Portland. In the fifth minute, Bangura converted a penalty kick after getting clipped in the box by Timbers U-23s goalkeeper Austin Guerrero. He then doubled the Surge’s lead in the 47th minute. After intercepting a pass between Portland players, Bangura capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity with Guerrero. The Timbers U-23s best scoring chance of the night came in the 33rd minute as midfielder Roberto Farfan delivered a cross into the box for defender Daniel Leach. Just inside the six, Leach headed the ball right at the goalkeeper.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Midfielder Collen Warner delivered the decisive goal for the Timbers U-23s in a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency at PGE Park. Warner scored his second goal of the season in the 88th minute off a ball played over the top from defender Logan Emory. Warner flicked the ball over the head of a Vancouver defender and buried the ball into the goal. Goalkeeper Garrett Staples recorded two saves to earn his third shutout of the season and preserve the Timbers U-23s unbeaten record at home (5-0-1). The Whitecaps Residency suffered its fifth straight shut-out loss.

TUALATIN, Ore. – Forward Ryan Youngblood scored the equalizer in the final minute of the match to help the Timbers U-23s rally to a 1-1 draw with the Kitsap Pumas at Tualatin High School. Youngblood, who entered as a sub in the second half, scored his fifth goal of the season and defender Logan Emory recorded a key assist in a second straight match as the Timbers U-23s ended the Pumas six-game winning streak. Midfielder Matt Friesen scored his second free-kick goal of the season against Portland in the 30th minute to give Kitsap a lead for most of the contest. The showdown between the top two clubs in the division proved to be a physical contest as Portland and Kitsap combined for 37 fouls, including seven cautions and three ejections.

POST FALLS, Idaho – Forward Ryan Youngblood recorded the Timbers U-23s’ first-ever hat trick in a 4-1 road win over the Spokane Spiders at Greyhound Park. Youngblood opened the scoring in the 17th minute and midfielder Masaki Hemmi added his first goal of the season to give the Timbers U-23s a 2-1 lead at halftime. Youngblood added to Portland’s lead with two more goals in the second half, scoring in the 60th and 88th minutes. Forward Frankie Lopez assisted two of Youngblood’s goals and midfielder Avneet Shergill fed Youngblood on his final goal of the night. With the win, the Timbers U-23s finished their season series against Spokane with a 2-0-0 record.

YAKIMA, Wash. – More scoring from forward Ryan Youngblood, along with goals from midfielders Jordan Crasilneck and Masaki Hemmi guided the Timbers U-23s to a 4-2 win over the Yakima Reds at Marquette Stadium. With the win, the Timbers U-23s clinched one of three playoff berths in the PDL’s Northwest Division. Down 1-0 after Yakima scored in the fifth minute, Youngblood scored back-to-back goals to lift Portland to a 2-1 lead. Reds midfielder Alonso Rojas leveled the score in the 62nd minute, but the Timbers U-23s responded with strikes from Crasilneck and Hemmi just after the 70th minute mark to close the match 4-2. Youngblood also recorded an assist in the contest and high school player Steven Evans logged his first assist.

PORTLAND, Ore. – With four first-half goals, the Timbers U-23s concluded their regular-season schedule with a 5-0 win over the Abbotsford Mariners at Lincoln High School. Portland finished its first season in the PDL in second place in the Northwest Division and an unbeaten record at home. Forwards Ryan Youngblood and Frankie Lopez, midfielder Jordan Crasilneck and defender Josh Brown helped the Timbers U-23s build a 4-0 lead before halftime, scoring all four first-half goals in 36 minutes. Midfielder Gemechu Abraham connected with midfielder Steven Evans in the 88th minute to round out the scoring; goalkeeper Patrick McLain recorded the shutout in his lone appearance of the season. With the win, Portland earned the right to host its first postseason contest.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Timbers U-23s inaugural season came to an end as forward Alex Chursky’s hat trick led the Seattle Wolves to a 3-2 win at PGE Park in the first round of the PDL divisional playoffs. Defender Josh Brown scored in the sixth minute off a corner kick from Jordan Crasilneck to give the Timbers U-23s an early lead. Chursky answered the call in the 23rd minute with a volley into the upper left corner of the goal. Portland pulled ahead 2-1 before halftime as Ryan Youngblood finished a cross from Masaki Hemmi on the back post. Nine minutes from time, Chursky struck again off a free kick to level the score at 2-2. Tied heading into stoppage time, the match seemed destined for overtime. But Chursky capped his hat trick in the closing minutes of added time to lift the Wolves to a 3-2 playoff victory.
